getting closer

april, and the vaccination schedule opens for people like me - yay!  after spending a week with several failed attempts to secure an appointment after it opened up to "50 and over," I crowd-sourced a better idea from my FB peeps.  Within 30 minutes of taking some of their suggestions, I had an appointment.  on the day of, that process was simple and swift as well, and only 4 miles from home - even better!  post-vax symptoms/reactions were minimal, so now I just need to wait until the end of the month to get shot#2.  wheeee!

on the same day as my appointment, I learned that HRH Prince Philip had passed, two months shy of his one hundredth birthday.  I've watched the live broadcasts of the four major royal weddings, but this would be the first funeral.  woke at 6:30 to catch the early commentary.  the ceremony was very moving, and a wonderful tribute to this celebrated and faithful man.

later in the morning I tuned in to a live webcast from Florida, and watched the Air Show over Cocoa Beach, featuring the thrilling Air Force Thunderbirds!

until I'm fully vax'd I'm still participating in events online; but some of them are far away, so that's that only way I can attend!  watched a presentation of 3 casts/productions of Assassins, the Sondheim musical I was in so many years ago.  it was a fund raising event that was a "talk back" session with cast members, directors, producers, and the creators of this epic musical.  It was so engaging I watched the replay a second time before the time expired.

it's been awhile since I've watched the Oscars, but this year I wanted to, and I was pleasantly engaged the whole time.  it drew me in with its simplicity and humanity.  there were no big splashy production numbers.  there were several hosts who rotated through the MC duties.  winners' speeches weren't cut off, and some were allowed to ramble on much too long.  I would anticipate some of the changes made for this event may be carried on into future productions.  the most exciting part for me was seeing the newly renovated Union Station, which was the venue, and I can hardly wait for an opportunity to take a walking tour to see it in all its restored art deco glory!
...and then there was a pink moon!
