sabbatical

sneaking up on fall...  looking forward to my second sabbatical!  ...and starting the usual month-long birthday activities ahead of the usual schedule!

treated myself to a once-in-my-lifetime concert for my birthday - early.   I have wanted to see the Monkees in concert since I was a kid when I watched them on the telly.   now that two of the four are no longer with us, this seemed like my only/last opportunity to see the brains and soul of the group.

the following week my sabbatical started and I picked up the pace on activities.

the Thunderbirds flew into town for our annual air show which apparently happens over my house!  I didn't need to pay to see any of the flyovers.

I then spent the first weekend in the bay area going to events with Janet, and solo.  first, I went to the ballet of Midsummer Night's Dream performed by my Nutcracker ballet company.  it was wonderful seeing a few of my troupe!

the next day Janet and I went to the van Gogh experience,  and also went to the Gold Over America Tour (GOAT) featuring Simone Biles.

between these events Janet and I went to her house and watched a livestream cooking class on making mole, which is one of my most fave Mexican foods.  I bought "the kit" so I can make it a couple days later.  we wouldn't have had time between the two activities downtown.

here was the mole project, which took several hours, and was worth it!

on the last day of the month I took a road trip for my Second Annual visit to the Sensorio exhibit in Paso Robles, to see the latest addition/extension to what I viewed last year.  it was well worth seeing again.  on the road south I stopped at Harris Ranch for a steak, and on the coast road north I stopped in Monterey for fish and chips.
