birthdays month
celebrate good times!
I ended up working on my birthday again this year. the Wednesday before I also needed to drive down to the bay area, both for work - turning in my "old" desk phone - and play, meeting up with Janet one more time before she drives back to Texas. I bought her lunch at the on-site Cafe - a delicious herb crusted salmon with lobster sauce, roast potatoes and pureed carrots. we splurged on churros - baked on site - for dessert.
then on Thursday, the support group activity this month was to create this beautiful mosaic.
we gathered for pot luck and crafting. I did mostly crafting but did indulge in a slice of pumpkin spice cake, and the ladies all sang happy birthday to me!
here are our supplies and a quick work in progress shot.
one sad moment during our fun evening was finding out the police activity we noticed nearby was their finding a dead body! the heat has been intolerable so we speculated it could have been a homeless person who succumbed. this is such an active park with lots of kids' activities too.
the next day - our birthday, I worked four hours. that's right, for a second year in a row, after such a long streak of taking my birthday week off. Craig took me to dinner at the seafood place on the river where I indulged, but still kept it vegetarian.
I had vegetarian tacos with lightly breaded mushrooms; and a huge salad with beets, mandarin oranges and candied pecans.
the waitress brought me cake for my birthday too!
Joyce spent at least part of the day in Deadwood, possibly visiting family but for sure window shopping, and snapped a pic of this "saucy" tee shirt for me :-D
we also found out that the legendary Coach Ditka passed. I made a point of watching his legendary team perform the Super Bowl Shuffle.
on Saturday I splurged on my bi-annual deluxe mani/pedi, which includes sugar scrub, hot stones and massage ... ahhhh!!
on Sunday, our Support Group met again, at an eatery near the college downtown where they have multiple kitchens preparing different menus, but you pay through one order/one bill! I had a delicious trip-tip, avocado, bacon salad - only my second beef meal this week! - and to make it a "meal" I got a bag of Maui Onion chips and a peach lemonade. okay, I did get an adult bev - the bartender recommended the blackberry bramble sake drink! it was delicious!!
I didn't see the end of the game there as I left during the fourth quarter, but our team won by the time I got home. they are five-and-oh now! quite a feat given we were away and playing at a hostile arena. see how happy the skeleton is in the photo, showing us the touchdown move :-) there was also a pumpkin patch for kids to pick their favorite.
the following week and a day, on MNF, our team played at home and inducted Keena - whom I've met - into our ring of fame. SO well deserved! Oh, and we won the game, making us 6 and Oh!
